Live-action adaptations of Anime.
So a couple days ago CH lamented about the lack of good game to movie adaptations and I gotta say this has also applied to the Anime genre.
So back in elementary school I was a huge anime fan and it all started because of Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon. Over a decade later, I found out that they were making a Dragon Ball Z live-action movie and although, it looked terribly cheesy, I saw it for the sake of nostalgia.
Many proclaimed blasphemy at this bastardization of an age-old classic but I kinda of realized it could have been worse.
What’s worse? This live-action Sailor Moon series from Japan. It’s so good just because it’s so bad. I actually watched all 50 plus episodes of it.
Check out this clip here where we see a CGI/Plush animal Luna and Sailor Moon evading a demon-possessed woman with ballet moves and twirls.
Turns out this wasn’t Sailor Moon’s first foray into the live-action realm. Check out this strange pilot for the failed American adaptation of Sailor Moon by Saban, the people behind Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers.
Skip to about 1:40 to see it. Who needs angst-ridden super heroines when you can save the world as a cartoon and then have a dance party down the hallway.
