COMICS YOU SHOULD BE READING - SECRET WARRIORS
When Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev team up you better take notice. The Bendis/Maleev, writer/artist punch is one of the best in the industry, comparable to the Johns/Reis combo over at DC. The last time we saw Bendis/Maleev together was when they were creating one of my all time favorite books, Vol. 2 of Daredevil, and completely turning around the Man Without Fear.
To be honest I am not a big Marvel guy and I have pretty much turned a blind eye to everything they have done over the past few years (Civil War left a sour taste in my mouth and I am not entirely sure why). So when Secret Invasion was going on I didn’t pay much attention to it. It wasn’t until this past weekend that I decided to smarten up and give Marvel a fair shot and play catch up on 2 years worth of material. Needless to say I am impressed and my pull list has just gotten a little longer. I am not going to write my thoughts on Secret Invasion because all the praise I could give it has been given. Instead I am going to give praise to one of the titles that launched as a result of the outcome of Secret Invasion…Secret Warriors.
Secret Warriors is basically a group of young heroes lead by Nick Fury who are out to debunk Norman Osbourne and the H.A.M.M.E.R organization. Although the group is a bunch of younger heroes they aren’t a group of lame, whiny teens living in the shadows of their older name sakes (Young Avengers).
I highly recommend Secret Warriors, it is a great read reminiscent of early Ultimate Spiderman with an added team flavour. If the names Quake, Phobos, Stonewall, Hellfire and more are foreign to you I suggest you pick this title up and see what they have to offer.
